Triphala is an Ayurvedic product, one of the oldest herbal formulas in the Vedic tradition. It is a nutritious and smooth blend of three certified organic fruits: Amalaki ( Phyllanthus Emblica ), Bibhitaki ( Terminalia Bellerica ) and Haritaki ( Terminalia Chebula ), are the three most used superfruits in Ayurveda.
Translated, triphala means “three fruits” and is used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine to improve digestion, metabolism and immune functions.
Triphala benefits various health disorders, especially those related to the gastrointestinal system. It has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years to support gut health and aid digestion.
The beneficial health effects result, among other things, from the antioxidant properties of the active substances contained, which are due in part to the high vitamin C content, but also to the large amount of tannins contained. Tannins are plant polyphenols whose antioxidant, anticancer, immunomodulatory, detoxifying and cardioprotective properties have been proven in numerous studies (1).
Secondary plant compounds are found in cocoa beans, tea, wine, fruits, juices, nuts, seeds, legumes and cereals. Spices such as cinnamon, cumin and thyme also contain tannins.
Scientific studies investigated the effect of triphala on strengthening the immune system (2), and in another scientific study, cardiovascular risk factors were significantly minimized in patients with type 2 diabetes compared to placebo (3).
