Acetyl-L-carnitine capsules contain the “acetylated” form of L-carnitine, which might sounds very “chemical”, but it actually only means that it is a biochemically active form of carnitine.

Acetyl-L-carnitine has a higher bioavailability compared to conventional L-carnitine and hence it gets into the body cells faster. The acetylated form of L-carnitine occurs in humans in the mitochondria, the so-called “power plants” of the cell. These work, for example while making sports, with the energy coming from fatty acids. L-carnitine has the task to transport these fatty acids to the mitochondria. Conversely, this means that during sports activities, big amounts of L-carnitine are consumed by the cells of the muscles.
